Re: GERMANY

I live in Munich and haven't worn a pair of trousers in over five years. Mostly nobody takes any notice, occasionally someone makes confused remarks about Scotland, occasionally I get enthusiastic compliments (the most enthusiastic was for a striking black and white striped dress, one of my favourit...

Re: Dr Martens woes

I bought a couple of pairs of 20-eyelet Solovairs with side zip (made where they used to make DMs) from the British Boot Company in Camden a decade ago, and they're still going. I have had to replace the zips though, an involved but doable operation. Sadly, since the UK decided to commit economic ha...

Re: What have you discovered through wearing skirts and dresses?

Oooh, several things, in no particular order: - I do like bright colours, I just dislike boring clothes; - Most people are just walking trees; - I'm much happier wearing things I actually like; - Deciding what to wear actually does take time when there is genuinely a choice to make; - Deciding what ...

Re: Is anyone else trying to learn a language?

I've learned several languages over the years, and weirdly, Norwegian is one I really struggled with, despite its relative grammatical simplicity. I'm fine with eldritch grammar - Basque was a hoot, though it was over twenty years ago and I've forgotten it all again - but my brain just doesn't want ...

Re: Hello

By the way I probably should have explained my username ‘Fear i Sciorta Dubh’. Some may have thought it had something to do with ‘fear’, as in fear of the consequences of wearing a skirt. But nothing of the sort. It is simply’Man in a Black Skirt’ in the Irish language (or as Gaeilge). Your usernam...

All the more remarkable for its appearance in a wannabe 'christian' dictatorship (the wannabe dictator actually calls it an 'illiberális demokrácia') where gender studies has been banned...

Re: Sightings "in the wild"

I have collated a few sightings over the past few months - none to my taste, but all coherent outfits that worked for their wearers: At the Spielewiese games fair in Munich: brown leather skirt, yellow sleeveless top, knee boots; Frankfurt am Main central station: - Kilt/boots combo, all leather, pl...

Re: Air cover has arrived!

Goodness! I'm glad I live in Munich - Munich and the Bavarian Alps are still an island of relative safety in a sea of infestation (both the diseased six-legged kind and the politically noxious two-legged kind). Here the primary risk is tick-borne encephalitis (for which there is, fortunately, a vacc...

Rather decent-looking dress made for men

If my wardrobe were not already overfull I'd most probably order one of these. It's nice to see an everyday design rather than designers trying too hard.

@Skirtyscot: Think black, chrome, steam and *power*! ("Steam-generator" irons at anything up to £300 a pop...)
(No, I don't get it either...)

Re: Starting to go to work in a skirt

Great to hear (read)!

I'm gradually working up to working skitted myself - first step was a pair of denim-look leggings last week. I have high hopes of going the whole way (the tech side of a price-comparison website is a pretty easy-going place).

Re: A comfy alternative to pants for men

Oh goodness, that asinine "for men" thing is in no way limited to skirts! It all prays on the mysterious fear - particularly prevalent at C2 and below - of being thouht gay. Take moisturiser - a very sensible concept if you prefer not to flake like a parched sub-saharan field. Ordinary stu...

Re: Hello from the canals of England!

Urban Outfitters has some really good corduroy skirts with good pockets at the moment. On the boots front, I recently acquired a pair of king Grinders from www.britboot.com, which are fantastic - one of the very rare instances of an immediate perfect fit with no wearing in.

Re: Corduroy skirt with pockets

For those in the UK: Urban Outfitters has rather good corduroy skirts with deep pockets at the moment, not to mention one or two eminently wearable dresses. I stocked up.
