I learnt to sew in the seventies, because I could not buy the type of skirt that I wanted, a 50's style calf-length straight skirt. A straight skirt is very easy to make, I would recommend the McCall's M3830, straight skirt pattern. This skirt consists of a front panel and two back panels. It has a ...

Hmmm..... Actually, I always thought of the kilts that I made for myself as "kilts" and not "skirts" Yes, my wife had several 'Kilted skirts' in the 60's and 70's but she never called them skirts, always kilts. A 'kilted skirt' seems to be a throwback to the 60's when women want...

Re: Thanks!

Thanks for that - yes, my 'kilt' is in a black watch tartan, and in the USA it certainly passes for a 'real' kilt just fine. Although last week - just before St. Patrick's Day here in New Orleans - I was wearing it on the street in the French Quarter, as part of a rather nice looking ensemble, when...

Re: Cotswolds

This summer my family and I will be taking a week-long walk in the Cotswolds. Shall I pack a kilt skirt? I have several kilt skirts - all of them in fact ladies skirts in tartan colors. Will they be 'found out' by the locals and disapproved of? I do also have one Pakistan-sourced polyester Black Wa...

Re: non-acceptance

Well, talked with my wife last night and she says she can't be placed in "that" position again -- that is, out with me in a skirt. I asked her what bothered her specifically, she says two things: 1) the reaction and questions by her friends and 2) she is not comfortable with me, cannot be...

Slits in straight skirts

With regard to previous posts re: underwear showing through the slit at the back of a skirt. I have worn straight skirts since the sixties, so I can claim to be somewhat of an expert in wearing this skirt style. I have always regarded a slit in a skirt as a woman thing and I would never wear a skirt...

Re: thanks

Thanks guys, I will ponder your words! My inclination is to hold my head up high, walk in like nothing is amiss and let them whisper and ask questions. Wife has already stated that after last Sat night, she isn't going to explain anything, she is just going to send them to me. Please be carefull th...

I love to wear half slips under my skirts. As somebody said earlier..it just feels good. I also like the lace trim on slips...it makes them somehow.. expensive .. classy .. I don't know about letting the slip show in the back slit of your skirt tho. My wife thinks, that is a bit too much for people...

I don't wear slips but I can find nylon itself to be a problem. I have a couple of Diesel skirts that are all nylon, (inside and outside, with some kind of padding material in between, very comfy) but sometimes after washing they seem to hold a very high static electrical charge. I've seen sparks a...

It always amazes me that even on the hottest days in the summer you will see dozens of women in Jeans and long trousers, jeans are almost a religion with women these days!

While I agree with everything that you say about keeping the quality of a traditional kilt, I'm afraid that the only way that's its ever going to be ok for us to wear a skirt is to start with a kilt. The jump from trousers to a skirt is too big for the general public to handle. The big stumbling bloc...

You can buy skirts from the USA. I bought this skirt from this company. http://www.shopnational.com/product.cfm?wc=105000&sgid=7864_&sid=7865_&ns=20W&qo=0&#b Their website says that they do not ship abroad, but I wrote to them and complained and they said no problem just fax us ...
