Xebec-frigate
Having researched the Xebec frigate style, my interest piqued from my cheeky rejoinder to Carl a couple of days ago, I was interested to see that the action described actually happened on the 6th of May 1801, when the "Speedy" took on the Spanish Xebec, "El Gamo" and won the vict...

Re: Tree Trimming in remote areas
Almost as much overkill as Kari, in Mythbusters, cutting down a pine tree with a .50 cal. minigun. It was faster than a chainsaw, but messier
And that Girl had a blissful look on her face.

Re: Advice sought on pocket-squares
I'm no expert here, though I'm sure I saw some detailed instructions on folding these items on the internet, so maybe Gargle will find a way. I, myself, find these of little use; the material is too flimsy for their use as a handkerchief and so, I will plump for the latter (plain and of quality cott...

Hare Krishna food tent, YUM, you'll find me there. There is a H.K. eatery at the Eumundi markets and, when we lived in the area, we often ate there.

Re: Telecommunications.
I'd better update my phone situation. Two days ago I had my ordinary phone ring (for the first time in three weeks) so picked it up knowing it would be the technician, he tod me the fault was traced to a phone junction at the bridge, about six kilometres away. It's a great relief to have landline wo...

Good for us to wear.
These T shirts from Mythbusters seem, to me, to be just right for us blokes to wear with a skirt. The first is not a mythbusters one but relevant

Forgetting any hidden tricks in the graphics, doesn't the proverb apply to what we, on this forum, against fulminations from the naysayers, are doing?

Ah! The penny drops. This is a button accordion or, more colloquially, a squeeze box. (Mr Wheatstone's invention) Beloved in Irish folk music and, I wouldn't be surprised if a certain mouth torturer has one stashed away in his collection.

Re: I have got them!
Well, I have what is arguably a partial suction/partial pressure reed organ, I am fascinated and intrigued, please give some details of this beast. Sometime in the 1880s, for one of the Great Exhibitions, the Mannborg firm built a three manual instrument that had one manual of pressure sounded reed...

Holt and Best combined in the early 20s to create the Caterpillar company, so that is a Holt heading to the front at the Somme. Now who is a pedant ?

Re: I have got them!
The Alexandre is a harmonium, that is the reeds are blown by pressure bellows. The Mannborg is a suction organ like the bulk of U.S. production from the very late 1860s through to the first electones in the late 40s. Though the reed instrument was, in the hands of a top manufacturer, a superior inst...
