Re: Ties and skirts/kilts

Mentioning the weather, a couple of weeks ago during our *hot* spell - just to explain to the rest of the world anything over 25c in the UK is *hot* - and went into the sea @ Ainsdale, near Lancaster, and it was, for us, a balmy 20c. However, judging by the colour of the water, I didn't swim...

Re: Ties and skirts/kilts

I can't think of a more pointless garment. Swimming trunks? Don't keep you warm, don't keep you dry and generally look dreadful too. At least a tie can add a dash of colour to an outfit. Like Carl, I have a couple cravats that I use to brighten things up, mine came from the Pocket Watch and Waistco...

Ties and skirts/kilts

Just reading another thread, and made me think. I've never found that (m or f) wearing a tie with a skirt works - to me just doesn't look right? Even from tender years always puzzled me why we send girls to school with skirts and (school) ties (the Russian/scouts-style neckerchief seems much more su...

Re: It's not just me spouting off

This weekend's polls show the *yes* (to independence) recent rally has faltered Panelbase in the Sunday Times has topline figures of YES 40%(nc), NO 47%(+2). ICM in the Scotland on Sunday have figures of YES 34%(-5), NO 46%(+4). Quote; ukpollingreport.co.uk The Scots are a canny lot and know which s...

When do you say it's *hot*?

Summer (that's the day between winter and winter in the UK) finally arrived here in Costa Del Irwell. Standing outside, thought it was pleasantly warm in the shade but not *hot*. It was 23c. To me, 25c is the turning point between warm and hot. If you live in Arizona, 25c is probably the temperature...

Re: A skirt company wants to make running kilts!

I love playing sports in skirts/skorts - badminton/volleyball etc; the freedom of movement is immense. One problem with skorts is the inner part is usually too thick - sure it keeps everything in place and your modesty, but something more lightweight, breathable but opaque as in sport everything bec...

Re: Dress Code Problems

Tonight, Saturday -busiest night of the week - I was not allowed into a pub in Bolton (UK) because I was wearing shorts and trainers. 9.35pm in the evening, and there were a total of two customers sat in the bar, and three staff + one bouncer. *Black Cat Inn* So I went to the bar opposite, where the...

Re: I get a feeling these people know of us.....

I've seen it and put a bid in, but the lack of information puts me off bidding further.

No hockey tomorrow, so I'm off to Afflick's Palace (is it still there??) in Manchester to see what's available. Now, somewhere under all those cobwebs is a wallet

Boy wears skirt to school

http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home/Boy-wears-a-skirt-to-school-in-row-over-uniforms-10052011.htm and several other links if you google. OK, it's in protest, but well done to him for his efforts, and the pix of him look so natural and comfortable that it's well beyond time that skirts were worn reg...

Re: Kilts and rugby

i saw a great bumper sticker once: "GIVE BLOOD - PLAY RUGBY" The original was "Give blood. Play hockey". As in, for our American friends, proper, unprotected field hockey, not that namby-pamby game on ice where there is more padding than a party political broadcast! Anyway, you ...

Re: Change in the wind?

I don't seem to get noticed at all. last Sunday, went to a new sports club and played badminton in my sports-skirt. Not a comment (why should there be??) and went to my local in leather pleated mini (complete with fishnets) and, er, nothing, apart from one guy asking "is this a Manchester thing...
