I tried on a utilikilt in Las Vegas at a ren fair once and thought it felt too heavy on my waist compared to a skirt. Although it seemed to fit good, I didn't buy one because of the weight issue.

I wear my skirts in Las Vegas and other small towns in Nevada but not in Reno. I have never had any problems in Nevada wearing skirts. Usually people don't say any thing about it. Enjoy your trip to Reno.

If wearing a kilt knee length socks should coordinate with the kilt, regular sock lengths can coordinate with shoes. Any shoe or boot can be worn depending on the situation (formal, casual, hiking).

Wearing a skirt is kind of a spiritual experience for me, I like to take long walks in meditation while wearing a skirt. A skirt seems enhance the meditation. I do agree with all the others that a skirt is more comfortable than pants, after wearing a skirt for awhile I don't want to go back to pants...
